12. History of the Institution St. Xavier’s College, Ranchi was started by the Ranchi Jesuit Province of the Society of Jesus, a Christian Religious order founded by St. Ignatius Loyola in 1540. The college was established in July 1944, is a Minority College based on religion established and maintained by the Ranchi “Jesuit Society”. It is affiliated to the Ranchi University, Jharkhand as an Autonomous College. The college is registered under the Registration on of Societies Act XXI of 1860 under “Xavier’s Ranchi.”
13. Vision Statement Since its foundation, the Jesuit Order has contributed to the Christian service of education throughout the world inspired by a Gospel vision of human beings and their destiny. This vision is drawn from the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. It gives Jesuit educational institutions a recognizable character and sets before their management, staff, students, parents and the community high ideals of life and service which will inspire them continuously to strive to meet the emerging needs and challenges. The Ranchi Jesuit Province through the contributions of St. Xavier’s College envisions the educational development of the Jharkhand state with special attention to the needs of the tribal students of the region.
14. Mission and Objectives St. Xavier’s College aims at an integral and personalized training of young men and women, so that they may become intellectually competent morally upright, socially committed, spiritually inspired and nationally dedicated men and women in the development of the state of Jharkhand and India at large. Further, having interiorized these values, they may impart the young students, the same values to become morally sound people and committed citizens of India.
